PARO - (Therapeutic Robot)

PARO is a cutting-edge interactive robot created by AIST, a pioneer in Japanese industrial automation. It enables patients to receive the documented benefits of animal therapy in settings such as hospitals and long-term care facilities where live animals pose treatment or logistical challenges.

PARO is based on a baby harp seal. PARO is covered in soft synthetic fur to make people feel as if they are touching a real animal.
The majority of the day is spent sleeping by a baby harp seal. PARO, on the other hand, has a diurnal rhythm of morning, day, and night. PARO, for example, is active during the day but sleepy at night. PARO has five types of sensors that allow it to perceive people and its surroundings: tactile, light, audition, temperature, and posture sensors. PARO can distinguish between light and dark using the light sensor. He feels as if he is being stroked and beaten by the tactile sensor, or as if he is being held by the posture sensor. With its audio sensor, PARO can also recognize the direction of a voice and words such as its name, greetings, and praise.

*PARO has been shown to reduce the stress of both patients and caregivers.
*PARO encourages patients and caregivers to interact.
*PARO has been shown to improve patients' relaxation and motivation.
*PARO improves patient socialization with one another and with caregivers.
*Guinness World Records has certified the World's Most Therapeutic Robot.

PARO can be taught to respond to its new name and to behave in ways that the user prefers. For example, if you stroke it every time you touch it, PARO will remember your previous action and attempt to repeat it. If you hit it, PARO remembers its previous action and attempts to avoid repeating it.

PARO responds to human interaction as if it is alive, moving its head and legs, making sounds, and displaying your preferred behavior. PARO can also mimic the sound of a real baby harp seal's voice.
